Adrian Heskin: If he is on his A-game then I think he has winning claims
Wild West Wind
He looked set for a really good season when winning the Grand National trial at Chepstow in December, form that worked out very well, and we went into the big race itself with high hopes. He was travelling and jumping really well before falling there, if going perhaps a little too free, and things haven’t worked out in his last two starts, either. I thought we were going to win comfortably at Haydock on his next start, but he stopped pretty abruptly in what was desperate ground there, and then he was out of the race early in the four-miler at Cheltenham last time.
He is still 6lb higher than when winning at Chepstow, but I definitely think he has the ability to be winning off this mark, and 3m2f on this ground really should suit him. He just needs to get his confidence back and, with that in mind, he does seem in good form at home. I schooled him on Thursday and he felt very well in himself. If he is on his A-game, then I think he has winning claims.
