He showed some decent form in bumpers and he ran particularly well on his first start for Henry when a neck second to Brelade at Naas, and the winner went on to be placed in Grade 1 company. I schooled him recently and he jumps well, though of course this looks a hot maiden hurdle with Samcro in here, and Jack Dillinger, too.
Prince Garyantle
I have a good record for the stable, having ridden two winners from just the four rides, so let’s hope that we can improve upon that strike rate. The horse certainly comes here in good form, having won by a wide margin at Clonmel last time, but of course he has paid for it with a 15lb rise in the weights. But let’s hope he can progress again from that career-best in similar conditions.
Sub Lieutenant
This is more like a Grade 1, than a Grade 3, but I think my lad’s form is as good as any of these. I obviously know the horse very well and he is a high-class performer on his day, as he showed on numerous occasions last season, not least when bumping into one when second to Fox Norton at Aintree on his final start. Although his best form to date has come at less than this 3m1f trip, I think it could well suit him now he is a year older – he was last tried over 3m about 18 months ago – and he is a horse that goes well fresh, too. I think the ground will probably be yielding and that would be fine for him, as well.
