He fell at the first at Gowran so it was important that he had a confidence-booster here last time, and he did just that. He was beaten a long way in the end but he ran well to a point and it was a Grade 3 against some of the best juveniles that we have seen this season, as well. He jumped and travelled well and I left him alone once his chance had clearly gone. Back in maiden company he should go very close.

He has to give weight away all round and was a shade disappointing at Thurles last time. But he was a good second at Naas before that and I think the step up to 2m4f will suit him. It is a competitive race, though, and could take plenty of winning.

Wolfslair
He won well over 2m6f on good ground at Down Royal last month, but has been disappointing in his two starts since. Perhaps he just doesn’t handle testing ground as well as we thought he would, and it will certainly be plenty soft enough here after recent rain. He is still 11lb higher than for that Down Royal win, too, so I think he probably just has each-way chances. He is tried in a first-time tongue-tie, which may help.

This race is obviously all about Yorkhill but Burgas is a lovely horse with the look of a real chaser. However, 2m4f-3m is more of his trip and I’d say he will have a lot easier options down the line. He ran really well when third in a Punchestown handicap hurdle last time though, his first start since pulling up lame in March.

This race has been the plan for him ever since he was just touched by Martello Tower over 2m5f here earlier in the month. Noel has aimed him at this race and the step up to 3m will be a big help. You’d have to hope that he would go very close.
