Bryan Cooper: This looks a good opportunity for him to get back on track

Broken Soul
I was told yesterday that the English handicapper rates this horse 140, which I thought was madness. I thought his Irish mark of 130 was plenty high enough. Anyway, we know why he got the mark, as he chased home Melon at Leopardstown in January in a maiden hurdle. That was a good, solid effort against an impressive winner, and he had earlier won his bumper, but things haven’t gone to plan since. He was beaten at odds-on at Navan and then was brought down 4 out at Leopardstown last time. It was obviously too far out to be sure but I was going well there and I thought I would be involved in the finish. This looks a good opportunity for him to get back on track, though one or two in here look to have a similar level of form to him.

General Principle
I thought his mark of 142 was plenty high enough going into the Navan handicap last time and so it proved, as he finished a well-beaten sixth there, though he did run well for a long way. But back in a Beginners Chase he must have solid prospects as he had earlier put up some good performances, notably when splitting Bachasson and Mall Dini over course and distance. But he has been busy of late and hopefully that hasn’t taken its toll on him.
