Champions League preview: Inter vs Milan

Champions League preview: Inter vs Milan

In last week’s opening leg of this Champions League semi-final, Milan were 2-0 down within 11 minutes, and fortunate not to concede more in a match where they were comfortably outplayed. Making anyone who suggested Stefano Pioli’s side might be able to nick a result look pre-tty silly.

Whoops. Regardless, Milan followed that defeat with another setback this week, losing 2-0 away to Spezia in Serie A – Spezia, who are currently 17th in the league, free of the relegation zone on goal difference alone.

It’s not the most encouraging prelude to Tuesday’s second leg for the Rossoneri. Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter cruised to a 4-2 victory over Sassuolo on Saturday; that’s the club’s seventh win on the spin in all comps.

Romelu Lukaku might be worth backing to score

If Milan have any shred of hope to cling to, it’s the possibility that the influential Rafael Leao may be fit to play some role in Tuesday’s match. But even if Leao does figure here, the odds are against the nominal away side in this encounter at the San Siro. And not simply because they’re already two goals down. Inter have won 18 of the 19 UEFA ties in which they’ve taken victory in the first leg.

With Milan required to go for it and Inter clearly capable of taking advantage of any lapses in concentration, there could be goals here; over 2.5 is an 11/10 shot.

Romelu Lukaku might be worth backing to score for Inter, assuming he starts this time. He scored a brace against Sassuolo, and now has five goals from his last four league starts. He is 41/20 to score at any time.
