Champions League semi-final preview: Arsenal vs Paris Saint-Germain
These two sides have already met once in this competition in this campaign, Arsenal winning 2-0 back in the League Phase in October.
There’s rather more riding on this semi-final meeting, of course. Arsenal swept Real Madrid aside to reach this point, while Paris Saint-Germain overcame Aston Villa over two legs of their quarter-final, even if Villa made a decent game of it.
Before that, PSG knocked Liverpool out of this tournament in the round of 16. The French side have already been crowned Ligue 1 champions too, though they did slip to a 3-1 defeat at home against Nice on Friday – that’s PSG’s first league loss of the season.
Arsenal couldn’t win their last game before this meeting either, drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace on Thursday. Both sides conserving their energies for Tuesday’s first leg of this semi-final, perhaps?
The Gunners have had the better of it in meetings with the Parisiens; in five previous meetings, Arsenal have won twice, and drawn three times.
And the north London club should be full of confidence and belief after their excellent performances against Real Madrid in the previous round.
At the Emirates, Arsenal should be able to finish this match on top; they’ve won five of their six home games in the CL this season, with the exception being a 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven after they beat the Dutch side 7-1 in the Netherlands.
Arsenal are 57/50 to win on Tuesday night.
