Champions League semi-final preview: Inter v Barcelona

Champions League semi-final preview: Inter v Barcelona

Inter surprised a few people in the first leg, taking a two-goal lead after 20 minutes before Barcelona fought back, for what ended up being one of the games of the season.

It ended 3-3 – so, with Simone Inzaghi’s side enjoying home advantage for the second leg, can the Italian team see off Hansi Flick’s Barca to book their place in the final?

While Inter certainly took their chances in style in that first game, Barcelona frequently looked brilliant. So will the Spanish side be able to dominate away from home on Tuesday night?

Well, Inter are unbeaten in 15 games at San Siro in European competition. They kept a clean sheet against Arsenal when they hosted the Gunners earlier in the campaign. Of course, Arsenal don’t have Lamine Yamal.

Yamal was the star man for Barca in the first game. He scored the host’s first goal, but also looked a special player indeed. For this match, the Catalan club should also welcome back striker Robert Lewandowski from injury, though he probably won’t start.

As for Inter, they will possibly be without captain Lautaro Martinez, who was forced off at half-time in the first leg. Martinez is hopeful that he can play a part in this match, however.

In any case, Barca remain favourites both to win the game in 90 minutes and (for punters who think another draw could be on the cards) to go through to the next round.

If the previous encounter is any kind of bellwether, goals seem a good bet too. Seven of Barca’s last eight CL games have featured at least four goals. Over 3.5 goals is a 5/4 shot here.
