Champions League semi-final preview: Paris Saint-Germain v Arsenal
This second leg semi-final is pretty much all or nothing for Arsenal, who have little else to play for from now until the end of the season.
Does that pile the pressure on the Gunners, or energise them for what could be an epic encounter?
Paris Saint-Germain scored the only goal in the first leg, Ousmane Dembele scoring early for the visitors. It’s a slender lead. But the fear for Arsenal is that on home turf, Luis Enrique’s side will prove difficult to overcome.
That said, the French side have tasted defeat at home twice in this Champions League campaign, going down 2-1 against Atletico Madrid and losing 1-0 to Liverpool at the Parc des Princes – though PSG still ended up knocking the Merseyside team out of the competition.
Regardless, can Mikel Arteta mastermind a similar away day victory on Wednesday? Arsenal are up against it, with the hosts clear favourites to make it to the final.
But the north London team did make light work of Real Madrid in the previous round, and are perhaps being written off a little prematurely. A one-goal lead is not insurmountable; Arsenal to go through to the final at 16/5 doesn’t seem so unlikely. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time PSG have failed to get the job done even when they’ve had the advantage.
