Champions League: Tuesday’s action including Liverpool vs Paris Saint-Germain
Barcelona vs Benfica
Barcelona won the reverse fixture 1-0, despite Pau Cubarsi being sent off after just 22 minutes. In fact, Barca are yet to lose a match in 2025 thus far – so can Benfica put an end to that record on Tuesday?
Bruno Lage’s Portuguese side have already played the Catalan club in the League Phase of this competition back in January, that encounter ending 4-5.
Will this trip to the camp Nou serve up a similarly goal-packed affair, or will Hansi Flick’s side succeed in keeping this one tight? In Barca’s last three home games in La Liga, they’ve kept clean sheets.
Raphinha could be the man to watch for the hosts. The Brazilian has three goals in his last two meetings with Benfica, scoring the winner last week. He’s found the net nine times in this Champions League campaign, and is 23/25 to find the net at any time here.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich
Leverkusen excelled under Xabi Alonso last season, but the side haven’t been quite so bullet-proof this time around. They lost the first leg to Bayern 3-0, which included a brace from Harry Kane; do the hosts stand any realistic chance of turning round that scoreline at the BayArena?
The Bavarian side did actually lose 3-2 to an unexceptional Bochum side in the Bundesliga at the weekend – though Leverkusen also lost, getting turned over 2-0 to Werder Bremen. Perhaps both teams were keeping something in reserve for this encounter.
The sides have met four times already this season, with last week’s encounter definitely an outlier; the teams have met twice in the league, with the games ending 0-0 and 1-1. In the German Cup, Bayer won 1-0, though goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was sent-off early in that match.
Leverkusen can’t afford to be cagey this time. They will be without their influential midfielder Florian Wirtz however, and it’s tough to see the hosts pulling off what would be an extraordinary comeback.
BTTS could pay off at 4/7; to get a little more bang for your buck, you could also chance backing Bayer to win the match at 21/10. They may be able to win on the day, even if progressing to the next round is a far taller order.
Inter vs Feyenoord
Inter have barely put a foot wrong in this Champions League campaign. A 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen aside, they’ve kept a clean sheet in every other CL game they’ve played this season.
The Italian side beat Feyenoord 2-0 at De Kuip in the first leg; now Simone Inzaghi will look to put this game to bed against Robin van Persie’s side. In the battle of the former strikers, Inzaghi definitely has the edge here.
Given the host’s outstanding record when it comes to keeping opposition at bay, backing Inter to win to nil at 11/10 makes sense.
Liverpool vs Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain had 10 shots on target to Liverpool’s one in the first leg encounter. The hosts had 28 shots in all, while restricting the visitors to a total of two shots. Luis Enrique’s side were dominant in just about every area of the pitch – yet somehow, they still ended up losing 1-0 to the Merseyside team.
So how do things shake out at Anfield on Tuesday? The visitors will presumably prove less commanding away from home turf, while you’d expect Liverpool to put in a considerably livelier showing than in the previous meeting.
Last week’s harsh defeat for PSG ended a 10-game winning run in all competitions for the French side. If Enrique’s team can hit the heights they’ve proven they’re capable of, this could be a match to savour.
While goalkeeper Allison was outstanding for Liverpool in the first leg, the Reds have conceded goals in recent home games, with even struggling Southampton taking the lead at Anfield at the weekend.
Liverpool fought back to win 3-1, and are obviously a tough team to beat, home or away. But with PSG eager to make up for the disappointment of the first leg, and Ousmane Dembele in the form of his life, Liverpool’s 1-0 lead hardly looks unassailable.
Dembele has a total of 27 goals in all competitions so far this season, and four across his last four appearances. He is 8/5 to find the net on Tuesday; those expecting both sides to create plenty of chances could do worse than take a punt on over 3.5 goals scored at 27/20.
