Daniel Dubois exclusive: it’s time to fix up the mistakes I made
In this exclusive diary, Daniel talks about how he has prepared for this latest fight, aftter the disappointment of his defeat to Joe Joyce .
I’m back and I have a new trainer and set-up. It’s all quite simple really. We just get on with it. We’re practicing new things and it’s just straightforward boxing people. Everything’s all about boxing and that’s what I need at this stage of my career to improve upon things I’ve maybe not thought about before.
There’s a good few boys here and it’s good to be around young upstarts and young contenders in the game who really want to make it. That makes you more passionate about things and makes you want to work harder.
I got out and about to some other gyms sparring some good fighters. It’s good fun again. It was like being back in the amateur days when we had to go out and find sparring. We’ve taken it back. I’m enjoying it again. It’s a new start for me and I think this is the best move for my career.
We had a good few rounds with Derek Chisora. We were going at it. It was good fun. Coming back to that is a real massive confidence booster and I’m feeling ready.
The goal is still the same but I’ve been taking time out and doing things differently. You’ll see that in my next fight.
It’ll be so satisfying to achieve my goals after overcoming hardship. That’s what I’m planning on doing, making it right and setting myself up with a few good goals, some big fights and making it to the top.
I guess there will be less pressure since I lost my ‘0’. It’s not gonna work against me but I never put that pressure on myself. I wanted to win the fight with Joe and it didn’t come off. Now we go again. It’s time to set the record straight and fix up the mistakes I made.
It might sound weird but I enjoyed the fight with Joe. It was high level. Fighting Joe Joyce could have been for a world title belt. It was that type of fight. I’ve had that early in my career and now I have to use that as a learning tool. Next time I’m in there with an accomplished fighter I’ll have what it takes and some of the little mistakes I made, I can use that experience to help me get through.
Fighting Bogdan Dinu this weekend is the perfect fight to come back to for me. I don’t want to take too many steps back or easy fights. I need a testing fight to get myself ready for the next step. Dinu isn’t too far behind the big boys. He’s lost to Jarrell Miller and I want to make a statement and maybe end it early or whatever. For all the latest fight odds, visit our sportsbook.
I can’t wait for it. I want this comeback to be something special and make it run smoothly. I’m hungry still and I’ve got a lot to prove. I want to show people what I’ve got and what I can be.
I’m looking forward to going in there and going after what the goal has always been; winning a world title.
Until I get there I won’t stop.
