Rebel De Lope

He is a very decent colt on his day.  I suppose he has a bit of a patchy profile but I was pretty impressed by him when he won over 7f for me here last year, when he showed a good turn of foot to put the race to bed.  He wasn’t right when he disappointed over a mile before that, so I wouldn’t use that as a reason to doubt his stamina here, and his pedigree suggests it shouldn’t be an issue. It is just a case of whether a mark of 90 leaves him vulnerable here.  There are some likely types in here, such as the once-raced course and distance winner Atty Persse.

Fierce Impact

David’s horses tend to be brought on steadily with a long season in mind and this colt is up against much higher-rated horses here, so he has a difficult task on paper. But this is a horse we have always liked and I was quite taken by him when he won his maiden in the soft over a mile at Yarmouth last season. He only got a rating of 81 for that win, which reflects the mixed nature of the form – though the third came out and won a Newmarket maiden impressively at the Craven meeting – but I wouldn’t get too hung up on that. He could have won in spite of the soft ground at Yarmouth, so this better surface will hopefully suit better, and we think he is a nice prospect.

Jallota

This looks a very tight race on official ratings but my horse is in here with a fair shot. He was a model of consistency after winning a 7f York handicap for me off a mark of 103 last May and rounded off the campaign with a good third in a Group 2 at Newmarket.  He has done all his winning at 7f and below but he gets this mile trip well enough, and good, quick ground is no issue.  But it’s a very competitive race and his record suggests that he sometimes needs a run to put him spot on.

So Sleek

Luca’s horses are in good form and this filly showed promise in her two runs at two over 1m in the autumn. As a half-sister to the stable’s good Park Hill winner Silk Sari, the step up to 1m2f should certainly suit and it is just a matter of what she is bumping into here.
