Jamie Spencer: He starts off on a fair-looking mark
Berkshire
I think he has been pulled out a couple of times on the day this season, so hopefully conditions allow him to take up this engagement. He won the Royal Lodge at two and is clearly a very smart horse on his day, as he showed in Listed company at Newbury and when winning at Windsor last season, and in fact he is making his handicap debut here. A mark of 105 underestimates him at his best – he was rated 7lb higher at the start of last season – so obviously he has chances if coming here fit and well. I haven’t ridden him before but he looks versatile, tactics-wise, which is always handy around here.
Rebel De Lope
He wasn’t beaten too far over 1m at Sandown on his reappearance, where the watered ground was probably not ideal for him, but hopefully that run would have brought on him – he was a bit too fresh there, too – and he was dropped 2lb for it. He is a good horse on his day, as he showed when winning at the same track over 7f last season, and I think a mark of 88 gives him claims. Maybe 7f is more his trip than a mile, but quick ground around here (over 7f 127 yards) should be fine for him. He can go forward or take a lead.
Kreb’s Cycle
He looks an interesting ride. He was a pretty consistent horse when with Richard Hannon last season, when his best effort was probably when fourth in a 7f nursery at the July meeting. He has since been gelded, and sold and moved to Ian Williams, who is having a good season, and he starts off for him on a fair-looking mark.
