He shaped nicely enough for me on his debut at Windsor but he was a different proposition at Yarmouth next time, coming forward a good deal to win in the manner of a smart juvenile. The runner-up won at Newmarket last week, and the third, Adam Tiler, ran well in defeat and takes his chance here, so you have to be positive about the form. Obviously, it is much quicker ground here – though the ground at Yarmouth wasn’t that bad – and he is facing better opposition, but he is well drawn in two and he is a horse that has always shown us plenty. I think the better ground will suit him but Blown By Wind is probably the horse to beat.

Glendevon

I was impressed by him last season – it was a fair novice he won at Kempton by 5 lengths – and he ran a satisfactory first race of the campaign when third at Chelmsford earlier this month. Of course, he needs to improve for a good amount to mix it with some of these but the extra furlong should suit, being a Scat Daddy you would have thought the quick ground will be fine, and hopefully that Chelmsford run has brought him on a fair deal. It’s a fairly tough ask for him, though.

We all have Poet’s Word to beat, that much is obvious, but my horse will hopefully be the main beneficiary if the favourite doesn’t run to form, and he probably wouldn’t want the ground too quick, so there is hope. It doesn’t help that we carry a 3lb penalty for his Newbury win in September, and he clearly didn’t run up to his best in the Sheema Classic. But he obviously had no chance from off the pace in Dubai, and a reproduction of his course-and-distance third in the Eclipse on fast ground could just see him surprise a few people here, especially with David’s horses in such good form. I rode him on Friday and he is in good shape.
