Jamie Spencer: He is another of my mounts with a fair chance, if perhaps less obvious than some

He didn’t run as well as his stablemate Lancelot Du Lac, who also runs in the same colours, in the Stewards’ Cup on Saturday but he certainly didn’t run badly. He was only beaten just over 5 lengths when finishing in midfield and is able to race off a 1lb lower mark in a less competitive race here. Two of his four wins have come on soft ground too, and he has been running consistently well all season. He has plenty of 5f form, so the step back from 6f is no issue whatsoever, and he should go well.

I look to have landed another decent ride here. I’ve never ridden him before but he comes here on the back of a career-best win over 1m5f on good to soft at Chester last time. The potential negatives are the 2m trip and the prospect of soft ground – before Chester all his form was over 1m2f or shorter, and probably not on ground this testing, even if it does dry out – but we will soon find out how much an issue those doubts are, I suppose. And, of course, he also went up 6lb for that good win last time.

I remember him being very impressive when he won at Epsom last season – I was on the third, I think – and it looks like a gelding operation saw him return to something like that of level of form with a course-and-distance win last time. He still looked a bit wayward there, to say the least, but he remains reasonably handicapped off a 3lb higher mark. And all his three wins have come with a bit of cut in the ground. It would be typical if Oasis Fantasy came back to winning form without me on him, but I wouldn’t rule it out. He ran well at Goodwood and he will win again off this mark when it all clicks for him.

He is another of my mounts with what looks a fair chance, if perhaps less obvious than some of the others. He hasn’t been beaten far on his last two starts – decent runs considering he was coming off the back of a fall over hurdles not long before those – and he returns to a course that he has won on and off a falling mark, as well. I think the step back to a mile will suit him, and he does have winning form in the soft. And the return of the blinkers, which he has won in, could be a positive, too. All in all, he could run well for a stable that have had winners recently.

She didn’t run up to her best at Goodwood last week, but plenty didn’t in those conditions. She does handle testing conditions though, and won at Chester in the soft a couple of months ago, and she still looks to be on a fair enough mark. I can see her running okay, though maybe she is better at 5f when there is plenty of dig.
