2.15pm Sandown

Lille

I know nothing about her. I see she is an Equiano half-sister to a couple of winners but, other than that, I’m in the dark. The stable’s 2yos are going well, though.

Operative

He won over course and distance this time last season and is back down to a 5lb lower mark here. He has come down 10lb since the start of the year but perhaps the step back down to the minimum trip for the first time in a while, after running over 6f and 7f, will spark him back to form. He hasn’t been running badly, though.

3.25pm Sandown

Aussie Nugget

He looks to have run with plenty of promise when third on his debut at Goodwood last time, and the winner gave the form a more solid boost – a few have come out of the race and been beaten – when second in a Listed race at Haydock on Saturday. He looks to have a fair chance in a competitive novice.

3.55pm Sandown

Custom Cut

He was contesting Group 2 races this time last year – and he won in Group 3 company last season – but he hasn’t been running up to that level and has fallen to a mark of just 95. He needs to show more than of late, but he has won his only start here and good ground will be fine for him.

4.30pm Sandown

Firmament

He hasn’t won for a long time but things will fall right for him one time soon. He has actually nudged up 1lb in the weights after his solid recent efforts, notably his third at York, but he is definitely on a winnable mark if he gets the breaks. I guess we have been saying that for a while, though.

5.00pm Sandown

Sayem

I won on her at Windsor last time, but she has found it tough since following up on the same course. At least she is steadily coming down the weights though, and she didn’t run badly at Goodwood in July.

Astrologist

He showed promise when second at Nottingham at two, but didn’t run up to that form at Newbury on his return in May and has been gelded since. A mark of 78 doesn’t look overly-generous to me but he is a well-related individual, a brother to Raheen House and Shraaoh, and you would hope better days lie ahead for him.
