Jamie Spencer: He was only just touched off in this race two years ago
Petrus
I rode him when he finished an encouraging fourth behind Expert Eye on his debut at Newbury and he confirmed that promise when winning well for James (Doyle) at Sandown from a subsequent winner. He has been off for nearly three months since – I think he had a slight setback – and clearly meets some potential top-notchers on easier ground that he has encountered, so his chance isn’t obvious, but he is clearly unexposed.
Master The World
We saw how much he enjoys the hustle and bustle of a strongly-run, big-field handicap when winning at Goodwood and he has run well enough on his two starts since in a couple of Group 3s, the tempo of which in single-figure fields is clearly much different. He went up 5lb for that Goodwood win but he acts equally well on good or soft ground, and was only just touched off in this race two years ago. It isn’t hard to see him running well once again.
Late Change
He hasn’t shown a great deal here and on the July course to be honest, but it is early days and let’s hope there is plenty of improvement to come.
Firmdecisions
He is a dual course-and-distance winner who came back to form when third at Kempton last time. He would definitely like the ground to dry out but he looks weighted to play a hand in what is obviously a very competitive handicap.
