Jamie Spencer: His January win has worked out okay
Crazy Tornado
This is the first time I have sat on the horse but he looks to have a bit going for him in what is obviously a very open race. The fast ground shouldn’t be an issue and he comes here on the back of a fair comeback run over 7f at Catterick earlier in the month. The step up to 1m will suit, and he could go well if we get the breaks from stall two.
Beyond Recall
She showed some ability in two starts at Kempton last season and is quite a well-related filly and a half-sister to a few winners. Whether or not we will see the best of her until later in the season I am not sure – and there are fillies with better form in here – but it’s a small-field maiden and a good starting point for the season. She needs to step up on what she’s shown so far but she has been going nicely enough in her work to suggest she’ll take a hand.
Fear The Fury
He won over 7f at Wolverhampton in January but he was only last of five when I rode him on his handicap debut over the same course and distance last time. He ran too free there, though, and he needs to settle if he is to show what he is capable of. He is an ex Breeze-Up horse so they sometimes have tendencies to over-race. The handicapper has left him on the same mark of 76 but hopefully 1m on his turf debut will bring about improvement. His win has worked out okay, and the new rule allows him to run in this 0-75.
Belle De Lawers
She won over 1m here on her debut for James Bethell and she is back with him now after a spell in the States. She was well beaten on her return at Newcastle earlier this month but hopefully that run will have brought her on and she has at least been dropped 3lb for it. She has an outside chance, I guess, but not an obvious one.
