Jamie Spencer: I am under no illusions about her task

She ran well at York without setting the world alight, but I was a bit disappointed with her to be honest with you. I thought she would go close to winning there, though I suppose the race didn’t pan out ideally. They went a slow pace and then dashed, the fact that we made our challenge on the far side away from the first two home didn’t help, and it was also her first race on grass.
In short, she was just a little bit lost with the way the race developed. Although finishing third to Give And Take was still not a bad effort by any means, I am under no illusions that she has to be stepping up a lot on that performance to even be placed, let alone win, here. I wouldn’t have a clue about her ability to act in the conditions, but there are soft-ground winners on the distaff side, and the trip should suit her.
She went through the line well at York, and finished off her race strongly. I have only sat on her once since York, and it was nothing serious. It’s a very open race but I don’t think there is any doubt that Wild Illusion is the one to beat. She won the Boussac on soft ground, her Guineas fourth was the best trial for this, and trip and conditions will suit her. She is clearly the one to beat. It will be interesting how the ground is riding come the off-time tomorrow though, as when you get surprises in these types of races, it normally comes from horses that stay well.
