Jamie Spencer: I think he has a fair each-way shout in an open race
Clever Cookie
He loves it around here, and he has won this race a couple of times, and he ran well when third at Nottingham back in April. But he has struggled in his last two starts, albeit in a higher grade, and things aren’t getting easier for him as a 10yo now. And while he has won a Yorkshire Cup here on fast ground, you would have to say an easier surface would suit him, too. He has work cut out against higher-rated horses, too, but hopefully he can surprise us all again.
Great Prospector
I think he has a fair each-way shot in an open race. I haven’t sat on him before but he didn’t run badly over 7f at Newmarket last time, his first run after being gelded, and the handicapper dropped him 3lb for it. He was a very smart juvenile, finishing third in a Superlative Stakes and he was just touched off by a fair sort here in a sales race, and I think he could be primed to run a decent race with conditions to suit. A fast-run 6f in a big field will suit him better than Newmarket last time.
