Jamie Spencer: Rhododendron is the form horse and I hear very positive reports
Rosental
I haven’t ridden her this spring but I have worked alongside her and she is ready to start. She has a fair bit to find on form and, being a Pivotal, quick ground could be a bit of an issue. But she did well after joining Luca last season, winning a 1m2f Listed race at Saint-Cloud, and hopefully there is more improvement to come from her. I think Somehow and Nezwaah are the two to beat.
Son Of Africa
I haven’t ridden him before but he won over Sandown’s stiff 5f last August, so this easy 6f should suit. Fast ground suits him well and he has also come down the weights to a fair mark after a modest end to the season, but this is obviously a very competitive handicap and he did need his first run last year.
1,000 Guineas
Rhododendron is obviously the form horse on her Fillies’ Mile defeat of Hydrangea and I hear some very positive reports about her. I think she is by far the likeliest winner and Fair Eva could be the one to chase her home; I thought she looked a bit weak last year and there is plenty of good chat about her, too. The Irish 1,000 Guineas trial won by Hydrangea looks very strong form and the one I would probably take out of that race is the runner-up Winter. Apparently, she is flying at home, too. Of the others, I think Daban is not sure to last out the mile.

Red Roman
I haven’t sat on him at home and don’t know anything about him, but Charlie’s 2yos are going well this season. The rest are also newcomers bar Qaaraat, and I think the experienced horse could prove very hard to beat; he finished a good fourth in a warm Newbury maiden.
Leshlaa
I think it depends on what horse turns up. If it is the horse who finished last at Newcastle on his reappearance then it is hard to fancy him, but if it is the one who won impressively at Kempton last season then he definitely has a chance off a mark of 90. Hopefully, the first-time hood helps him show his best, as does the step up to 1m2f.
