He would want the ground to remain on the quick side. I haven’t sat on him before but his record tells you that and he was a progressive sort last season, when he was kept to fast ground over 1m6f and 2m at Musselburgh before disappointing in the soft at Ayr on his final start. He needs to step up again to be competitive off this mark but he seems to have run some decent races off a break.

He backed up his big-price Newbury maiden win with a novice victory under a 7lb penalty at Wolverhampton. I’m not sure that a mark of 88 is particularly generous and a draw in 15 could have been better, but he is clearly progressive and lightly-raced, so the potential is there. I rode Highland Reel to finish fifth at Ascot last time and he certainly has the ability to figure off his current mark.

Her debut Kempton novice win over 6f has worked out really well and she was clearly thrown in at the deep end in the 1,000 Guineas on her return. The fact that she was beaten only 7 lengths in 8th there paints her in a very good light and, back in trip and class, I think you can expect her to give a very good account of herself. That said, Albany winner and Cheveley Park runner-up Different League is the form horse if returning to her juvenile best. But I rode my filly in a breeze the other day and I think she could be tough to beat; she has plenty of pace and ran well in the Guineas considering she didn’t stay.
