Jamie Spencer: She is a well-related filly and suited to this race
Taurean Star
We could never get into the race after a slow start in the Victoria Cup last time, as he was always playing catch-up afterwards and that is pretty difficult in 24-runner handicaps at Ascot. But at least the handicapper dropped him 1lb for it, and that is only 2lb higher than when winning over 7f at Yarmouth on his reappearance. He is a tricky ride and only ever does enough, but he’s on a fair mark, the ground will suit and the step up to 1m isn’t a problem.
Vuela
I rode her when she landed a five-runner race at Doncaster last month and, although she only won by ½ length, I’d like to think there was more there if I needed it. The runner-up has done nothing for the form since, but the third won well for me at Windsor afterwards – the fourth has run well too, and the fifth also won next time – so I think a 3lb rise is very fair and she is a well-related filly who I think will be well-suited by the step up to 1m6f on run-style and pedigree. Hopefully, she will prove hard to beat.
Fab
I think she probably bumped into a very smart filly when beaten at Bath first time out – the winner holds a Queen Mary entry – and her second there was obviously very encouraging. Hopefully she can step up on that first run, but this does look a pretty competitive race and it could take a fair bit of winning.
Cartographer
She showed a lot of promise when just touched off on her only start at two, and she went one better in style for me on her return at Yarmouth. Okay, it probably wasn’t the hottest of races but she did it well – though saying that, the second won next time and third ran well in defeat afterwards – and I think an opening mark of 82 gives her definite possibilities here.
Spare Parts
He looks to have improved for going handicapping on his last two starts, and he has been dropped 4lb for those efforts, so he has chances off a mark of 51 here, stepping up to 7f for the first time. It’s a very open and competitive 0-55, as you can see. He is actually related to some very good sprinters, like Tax Free and Inxile, though.
Buxted Dream
He has proved pretty consistent since running here on his debut last season and probably ran his best race yet when just touched off over 7f at Chelmsford last time. I haven’t ridden him before but the step back down to 6f could well suit and this looks a winnable maiden. He’s a pretty well-related colt, too.
