Jamie Spencer: This is the day for Queen’s Trust

In the Filly and Mares Turf at 7.43pm, I think this could be the day for Queen’s Trust to finally get lucky this season.  She’s been unfortunate all year – in the Ribblesdale, and again at Ascot last time – and the drop back to 10f on fast ground around here could be the making of her.

She obviously has a lot to find with Seventh Heaven on their Yorkshire Oaks form, but the way she travelled into that race was impressive and the step down 2f on a sharper track promises to suit her. On the other hand, Seventh Heaven probably needs 1m4f to be seen at her best.

In the Turf at 10.22pm I think this could go to Europe with Highland Reel. He obviously has ground to make up with Found on their Arc running but given the faster ground and how he races should be perfect for this track. Flintshire is another obvious threat, but the last time they met, Highland Reel beat him fair and square in Hong Kong.

In the Mile at 11.40pm I think the favourite Tepin is vulnerable. I felt she was lucky to beat Mondialiste in this race last year and this looks a far stronger renewal with the likes of Limato and Alice Springs in the race.  They are much tougher opponents and Alice Springs’ good draw just shades it for me. I side with the filly, who looked so good in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

In the Classic at 12.35am California Chrome has developed into an almost unbeatable horse over 10f on dirt this year, and his trial win was very impressive.

I can’t really see a scenario in which he gets beaten given his tactical versatility.
