Josephine Gordon: He has a very good record & there are plenty of reasons to be positive
Dragon Mall
He hasn’t won for a while and the jury is out as regards his stamina – his only start at this distance was a midfield effort in Meydan earlier in the year – but he has a definite each-way chance off this mark if seeing out the trip. He was having his first start since February when staying on into third over an extended 1m at Nottingham last time, which was encouraging, and a mark of 101 looks fair if he comes back to the form of his Group 3 fourth at Goodwood last season or one or two of his handicap efforts since.
Steady Pace
He was a very good 2yo, winning here on his debut before going on to finish third in the Windsor Castle and Middle Park, among other very useful efforts. He was in good form in Meydan earlier in the year and he comes here a fresh horse, having not run since February. He has a very good record after a break, and the trip and ground are fine for him, so there are plenty of reasons to be positive in what is obviously another hugely competitive Wokingham.
First Mohican
With the likes of Tuesday’s impressive Ascot Stakes winner Thomas Hobson in here, along with the likes of Winning Story, Qewy and US Army Ranger, this has got to be one of the best runnings of this race for a while. But hopefully I am not totally without a chance on First Mohican, who I have ridden before. He was seventh in this race last season and we know that stamina is his forte, as he also finished runner-up in the Cesarewitch last year. He has a fair bit to find on official figures and didn’t run up to his best at Chester last time, but hopefully he can come back to form here.
