Josephine Gordon: Hugo has put first-time cheekpieces on, hopefully they can see him progress

It’s the first time I have sat on him but he comes here in good form. He was gelded after running poorly on his reappearance but he has run two good races since, most recently when just touched off at Windsor. He has gone up 4lb for that run but Hugo has put the first-time cheekpieces on and hopefully they can see him progress again.

She didn’t run up to expectations here last time. I don’t know if there was an excuse for that below-par run – and the handicapper hasn’t eased her for it – but she had earlier looked really good when winning over 6f here and she would have a good chance if reproducing that run. The step up to 7f is an unknown but her pedigree gives you hope that it will suit.

He won twice last season but he was disappointing when I rode him at Kempton earlier this term. He has shown his true form since though, and he ran really well after a break when a good fourth at Ascot last time. He has been dropped 1lb for it too, so I wouldn’t rule out him running a big race here, for all this is a competitive 6f handicap.
Major Pusey
He won over course and distance in the soft last year and, although he ran below par at Ascot last time, he had previously been in really good form. I wouldn’t say that he is obviously well handicapped but conditions will suit, and hopefully he will run his race from the front. And that, perhaps, may be good enough.
