His recent form obviously leaves him with a lot to find, as he was beaten a long way at Southwell earlier this month, but it could be that he simply didn’t take to his first try on the surface. If he comes back to the form of his Kempton fourth in January he would have a chance, and David’s stable is in good form.

He has been kept busy this year but he has also kept his form well without winning, and he probably ran his best race of the campaign when fifth over 7f here last time. He has actually been dropped 1lb for that run, and he stays 1m well and has form on fast ground, so he has definite each-way chances in what is obviously a wide-open race.

He is a Kodiac half-brother to a winner over 1m and 1m2f, and his dam won over 1m1f. But he has obviously been showing us plenty of speed at home, and it was clearly encouraging that the only 2yo Hugo has run this year did so well when second at Newmarket. But, as Hugo always says, our 2yos will always improve for their first day at school and if they win first time out that’s a bonus. I have ridden him at home and I actually put him through the stalls on Friday morning; he is a bonny colt.

Swallow Dancer

To be honest, she doesn’t look to have shown a great deal in three starts this year. But a mark of just 55 reflects that and hopefully she can progress now she goes handicapping. And the step back up to 1m4f should certainly help her.
