Josephine Gordon: I have ridden him four times and won twice, so let’s hope we can improve on that record
L C Saloon (non runner)
I believe connections thought a fair bit of him at one time last year and he is certainly lightly-raced and open to improvement after just six runs. I also think it is fair to say that perhaps he didn’t progress as much they may have hoped last season after he won over this trip at Thirsk from a subsequent winner, but he shaped okay over 6f on his reappearance at Southwell earlier this month and he is a 4yo sprinter with very few miles on the clock, and the stable are in fair form, too. On the negative side he meets some hardened, in-form sprinters and some Epsom specialists, and he is 1lb out of the handicap, so this is no easy task!
Van Huysen
I have ridden him four times and won twice, so let’s hope we can improve on that record. He has gone up a lot in the weights since I won on him over 1m2f at Sandown last season but he has landed another three wins since I guess, and he ran as well as could be expected behind Convey at Lingfield on Good Friday. In fact, you could argue that was a career-best effort. I think he has a fair each-way chance in this, for all that he has never raced around here and this is obviously a competitive and valuable handicap. And Dominic’s horses are in good form, as I won on one of his at Wolverhampton last week.
