Josephine Gordon: She comes here in brilliant form
Unforgetable Filly
I think Hugo has always had one eye on this race for the filly, and it is great to get the opportunity to ride her in this Grade 1 in the States. I think you can easily excuse her run at Doncaster last time as the ground wasn’t in her favour at all; I know it was officially only good to soft but she wants it like a road. And, having ridden her at home, I can tell you that she comes here in brilliant form. I rode her when she won impressively on fast ground at Musselburgh in June, and then she went and took the German 1,000 Guineas in style just a fortnight later. She plots a similar path to Hugo’s Hawksmoor, who was only beaten in a three-way photo in this race last year, and I just hope that the ground comes in her favour. I know it was officially soft there in midweek but I am praying it dries out for her, or that American soft isn’t the same as ours! Actually it was already good on Friday, which is great news. A draw in five looks okay and while it’s obviously a good race – Wuheida has also travelled over – we go into the race hopeful.
