Josephine Gordon: She has a lot to find but I am excited to be getting on her
Look My Way
I haven’t sat on him before – in fact, I haven’t ridden any of my mounts on the card! – but Look My Way comes here in good form after having finished second to Dominating over this trip at Sandown last time. He went up 3lb for that – though he is 2lb better off for a length with the winner, who is also in here – but hopefully he can go well again here. However, with so many progressive horses in here, I think you will need to be on a very well-handicapped horse to take this.
Wilamina
She may have a lot to find on ratings – she is the second lowest-rated filly in here – but I am excited to be getting on her. Of course, she has a lot to prove against the likes of Abingdon but I watched a video of her winning at Nottingham last time and you had to be impressed. That was her first run over 1m2f, and hopefully the extra 2f here won’t be a problem either. And she does have 1m4f winners in her pedigree.
Big Country
This is another great ride to pick up but I just hope Haydock gets a bit of rain, as I believe he may not run if the ground is too firm. His draw in 18 isn’t ideal, either. But he has a lot going for him. His fourth over 1m4f at Newmarket is very strong handicap form and he did it well at York last time. Given luck in running from his wide draw, and a shower or too, I think he can be very competitive off a 4lb higher mark here. He looks a very progressive horse. I do think Hugo’s Baydar has a good 1m4f handicap in him though, and he could run well at big odds.
Dr Doro
She doesn’t appear to have a great deal to recommend her on her three starts this season – she has only beaten one horse home – but she has come down 16lb in the handicap for those efforts, and that is a lot in a short space of time. She has been given a break since March, so hopefully she can put up an improved showing here. She is now very well handicapped on her old Irish form of a couple of seasons ago if she can show more sparkle.
Highland Pass
She won her maiden well at Chester in May, though she didn’t run up to that level over 1m at Sandown last time. The handicapper has dropped her 1lb though, and the return to 7f may suit her better as well, so there are reasons to be optimistic in a competitive fillies handicap.
Carigrad
This could be another handicap that will take a lot of winning but Hugo’s horses are going really well at the moment and Carigrad comes here after a good fourth over this trip for me at Newmarket last time. He had earlier run well over 1m here, previously, too.
