Josephine Gordon: She’s had an eventful time of it since winning the Rockfel
Airton
It doesn’t look as if he was ever travelling at Chester last time, and he never got into the race. Hopefully, he can return to the form he showed for me when winning at Newcastle the time before, on which he would have a chance. Ideally, he would want good ground or better.
Spain Burg
It looks like she has had an eventful time of it since winning the Rockfel last season, being sold for a lot of money to race in the States – where she had just the one run – before returning to France and finishing fifth in a Listed race last month. Clearly, she is the horse to beat here if coming back to that Newmarket form – she is unpenalised for that Group 2 win – and she was entitled to need that comeback run, too.

He made a pleasing debut at Leicester and then ran equally well for me at Lingfield last time, finishing a close third. He is still inexperienced and learning, as you’d expect, and I would hope there is more to come from him. At Lingfield I don’t think the ground or track really suited him, but he has had a nice break since that run in May, and when I rode him recently it felt like he had grown up a lot and improved.
Sandra’s Secret
She ran modestly here last time but perhaps the soft ground was to blame there, so let’s hope it’s better here. She has at least been dropped 2lb for that run, has won around here, and the trip is fine. She is weighted to go well if at her best.
