Josephine Gordon: We all know what a high-class filly she was last season
Snatty Dancer
I don’t know much about her but she is by Nathaniel out of a decent 1m winner for the stable, so she is well enough bred. A mile looks a good starting point for her on pedigree but we will have to see how she copes with the soft ground.
Architecture
It looks like she could never get into the race stepped down to 1m2f at Newmarket last time, so the 1m4f trip here will hopefully be far more to her liking. We all know what a high-class filly she was last season, when she was runner-up in the English and Irish Oaks, and she ran a great race when third on her reappearance here over 1m3f last month. This will be the first time I have ridden her, and hopefully she can give me a great spin, even if she would maybe prefer a touch better ground. It could be pretty testing on Saturday.
Alba Power
He hasn’t won since Yarmouth in June but he has run a number of excellent races in defeat, and 7f on soft suits him well. He probably didn’t run up to his best for me over a mile at Deauville last time but he didn’t run badly, that’s for sure, and I think the step back down to 7f will suit him better. He was running on empty in the final furlong in France. He needs to improve but he can.
Genetics
He is 2lb out of the handicap here but he ran well on his belated reappearance at Windsor recently, and he effectively races off the same mark here as the handicapper dropped him 2lb for it. He beat Raheen House in his maiden here last season and hopefully he will handle the softer ground here. If he does, then he could run really well.
Pullitzer
She handled soft ground really well when winning over 6f at Haydock for me last month (where she raced in ear plugs as she can be very keen and a bit of a livewire) and she backed up that run with an improved fifth in a Listed race at York last time. The extra furlong should suit, the ground won’t be a problem and I can see her running a big race. She is improving with experience.
Boscastle
She stepped up a good deal from her debut at Nottingham last time, and hopefully she can come on again. If she does then she has each-way claims, though of course others have stronger claims as it stands, not to mention all the newcomers from big stables in here.
