Josh Warrington exclusive diary: Dubois’ future looks very bright

Josh Warrington exclusive diary: Dubois’ future looks very bright

I’m looking forward to seeing Daniel Dubois get back in the ring this weekend on BT Sport. Daniel fights at Wembley’s SSE Arena on Saturday – find all the latest betting here

So far, he’s done everything right. Whatever test they’ve put in front of him, he’s passed it with flying colours. Daniel doesn’t seem the type to shout off about things and make a song and dance about what he’s doing.

He just goes about things quietly and gets on with the job in hand. I don’t usually like making judgements or predictions about youngsters after a handful of learning fights but based on what we’ve seen of him so far, the future looks very bright.

You hear stories and rumours about people Daniel has supposedly hurt in the gym but I don’t really pay too much attention to what happens in sparring. When those big heavyweights start swinging away anything can happen. You get a much more realistic idea of what he might be capable of when he’s actually in the ring and, so far, it looks like he can’t half whack.

Daniel’s going about things in the opposite way I did. He’s headlining the show at Wembley this weekend and it took me a good few years before I was topping bills on TV. That’s the excitement and attraction of the heavyweight division though. It’s a lot of pressure and expectation for a young lad to deal with but so far he’s coping with it all just fine.

I’m in full training for my world title defence against Barry (Kid Galahad) on June 15th at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. We’ve done a couple of head to heads recently and a few weeks ago they had us out on the pitch at Elland Road at half time of the game between Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.

I’m not gonna say too much but let’s just say that I came away from that little encounter feeling even more confident than I did before. He isn’t beating me.

32Red came down the other gym the other night and we had a laugh and put together a little video that will let you get to know the team behind me a little better. I’m the one that takes the punches and gets the accolades but I’ve come to realise just how important it is to have the right people with you.

My dad is the head trainer and he puts together the game plans and masterminds everything but we also have a couple of unsung heroes in Mark Hurley who does my strength and conditioning and Abed Rahman who’s one of the best pad men in the country. Jimmy Harrington and Nick Manners are both solid parts of the team too.

We’re a rag tag bunch but over the years we’ve all grown together. Whatever it is that we’ve built between us, it works. The proof is in the results. Keep following 32Red’s boxing coverage in the build up to the fight and you’ll find out much more.

And still!
