Luke Morris: He is a big horse who won’t have any trouble carrying the weight
Saturday 5th August
Cliff Face
I won on her three times last season after she joined us from Ed Dunlop and it was pleasing to see her return to something like her best when second at Ascot last time. We run her in Listed company here to nick a bit of black type, but unfortunately it looks like 15 others have had the same idea. She needs to improve to be placed, so hopefully she can step forward again from Ascot.
Onefootinparadise
She finished well down in the field in the Super Sprint at Newbury last time but she is clearly better judged on her first three efforts, which were all of a similar standard. A mark of 73 is how what you would have expected on those runs, and hopefully she can improve stepped back up to 6f again. I had a sit on her on Wednesday morning and she went nicely; she would have a good each-way chance if the ground isn’t too soft.
Frolic
Our two 2yo winners this season have scored first time out – Tunes Of Glory at Lingfield, and Codicil at Kempton, who followed up at Beverley – and this Cheveley Park filly (they also own Codicil) shows us ability at home. She works nicely. She is related to plenty of winners and 7f looks a good starting point for her on pedigree.
Swift Approval
He ran poorly at Ascot last time but that is probably best ignored and if he comes back to the form of his earlier fourth to Parfait over course and distance in the Silver Bunbury Cup, off a 3lb higher mark than this, then he has a fair shout. He also won on the course last season, so there are reasons to be hopeful. He is on a fair mark.
Lugano
He is a lovely big horse and he has been given a break since losing his unbeaten tag for us last time, though that was his fourth run in a fortnight. He is rated 87 but he gets into this 0-85 as a result of the 2lb allowance and, like I said, he is a big horse who won’t have any trouble carrying the weight. He has a good chance of picking up the winning thread and 1m4f with a little bit of cut should be fine for him.
Whosyourhousemate
He has clearly done nothing wrong on his first two starts, following up his debut Lingfield third with a Southwell win over 1m. That was back in March and I’m not sure why he has been off since, but the horse he beat that day actually won in France recently so hopefully he can be competitive off a mark of 80 and it was good to see the stable have a winner at Nottingham on Thursday.
