Luke Morris: He’s one of the more highly-rated horses, I think he will go well. Soft ground would worry me, though
Omran
He has found life tough since finishing fourth in a decent handicap over course and distance in April and then winning well at Newcastle in May. He went up 9lb for that victory and he was well beaten in the Britannia last time. But I think the return to 7f could suit, and the fact that Marco has put a first-time tongue-tie on him suggests they may not have been entirely happy with his breathing at Ascot. If he returns to his early-season form then he has chances.
Visionary
He wasn’t disgraced in the Commonwealth Cup last time but this looks more his grade. I know the horse pretty well and he was a good second for me at Lingfield on all-weather finals day and then went one better over course and distance next time in soft ground. However, he will need to improve the best part of 10lb to beat the likes of Magical Memory, though at least conditions should suit with more rain forecast.
Corinthia Knight
He was one of the leading early-season 2yos after impressive wins at Lingfield and Kempton, and he has not been disgraced in his two starts on turf. He was beaten by a smart horse in Havana Gold at Ascot – that one finished fourth in the Norfolk – and then returned to that track to run a solid race in midfield in the Windsor Castle. He is one of the more highly-rated horses in here, and I think he will go well. I would be worried if it went soft though. He isn’t the biggest and has small feet, but he has never raced in the soft, so who knows? I do think Maggies Angel could be tough to beat.
Michael’s Mount
He went up 6lb for winning over 1m4f in the soft at Catterick at the end of last season, and has struggled in this campaign, including in first-time blinkers at Chester last time. At least he is now only 1lb higher than at Catterick, but the step back down to 1m2f is not certain to suit, I suppose.
Titan
He has been beaten a fair way on all three starts so far, and the step up to 1m6f is an unknown. But at least he makes his handicap debut off a lowly mark, and he is obviously lightly-raced, so let’s see.
Vegas Boy
He is similar to Titan in that he has not finished within 10 lengths of the winner in any of his three starts, and makes his handicap debut off a pretty low mark. But he is related to a few winners, so hopefully this Society Rock colt can step up now he goes down the nursery route, and the tongue-tie is back on, too.
Wiltons
He will have to step up a good deal on his Newbury debut, where he finished last of 14 and was beaten a fair way, to be competitive here. Hopefully, the step up to 7f will suit him better.
Corporal Maddox
He has beaten only one horse home in his last three starts, so his chance here isn’t obvious. But he has come down 6lb in the weights and he is now 8lb lower than when a fair third here in May, and that makes him handicapped to go well if he can return to form and a bit of ease in the ground is no problem for him. He is getting on a bit at 10yo though, and he hasn’t been running great.
