Golden Muscade
I rode him for the first time over 1m5f here last season, and I think the drop back in trip will suit. He wasn’t dropped in the weights for that run but he has course and distance form and fast ground appears to suit. He has a chance in an open race.
Subjective
I am not sure what went wrong at Salisbury as he dropped away pretty quickly there after appearing to be going okay 2f out. But they have put blinkers on him and he would have a leading chance on his juvenile form, albeit this is his first try over 5f.
Awesome
He came on a lot for his Ascot debut when second over course and distance last time. I think the form could be okay. I actually rode the third that day and he has won since, while the winner was allowed to take his chance in the Woodcote. Short Call did look good when winning at Goodwood but he has to give us 6lb and hopefully that can make the difference.
Mister Musicmaster
This could be quite a hot 1m handicap but my horse clearly loves the track, the ground and comes here in flying form. I actually won on him here two seasons ago and he is certainly at the top of his game at present, though the downside is that he has gone up 9lb for those wins and he is now in a 0-90. But let’s hope he can be competitive in this better grade.
Mowhoob
I won on him at Chelmsford back in February and he has two run solid races for me recently too. He has gone up 2lb for his Lingfield second last time but comes here in form and has form on turf on fast ground.
Fivetwoeight
I rode him when he won his maiden over 6f at Kempton in December. I think he had impressed at the breeze-ups earlier in the year and went for a fair bit of money, and I did like him at Kempton. I think a mark of 78 is probably fair, but I don’t how fit he is and there are a couple of improvers in here against him.
Mraseel
James had his first 2yo winner of the season at Haydock on Thursday and hopefully this will be another for him, though this does look a decent race. She was just touched off at Kempton last time and is obviously open to further improvement, but Izzy Bizu did look good at Carlisle last time and there are other once-raced horses, and newcomers, to worry about, too.
Sir Compton
He didn’t look to get the run of the race on his comeback at Kempton back in April, and was dropped 1lb for it. A couple of earlier efforts at that track suggest a mark of 61 gives him chances, and he hasn’t many runs under the belt, so here is hoping.
San Quentin
He ran well enough after a long break when second in a Catterick claimer last time, after which he was picked up for £9.000 by his new trainer. I have won on him in the past, at Kempton three years ago, and he could go well here. They have put the blinkers back on him too, and he has won in them before. In fact, his most recent win came in them.
Defining Moment
She has run creditably without troubling the judge on her four starts – even when she was last of 10, she was not beaten that far – and the step back down to 5f should suit after finishing fifth at Yarmouth last time. She was also dropped 2lb for that and you can definitely make a case for her.
