Nagelsmann odds-on favourite to become next permanent Spurs manager

Nagelsmann odds-on favourite to become next permanent Spurs manager

Is Julian Nagelsmann the answer to Tottenham’s trophy drought, following Antonio Conte’s departure from the club?

Conte’s exit was finally confirmed on Sunday, a week after the Italian had railed against his team.

Conte complained about “selfish” players

During a post-match press conference following Tottenham’s 3-3 draw with Southampton, the former Chelsea boss had complained about “selfish” players.

And pointing to Spur’s recent history of underachievement, Conte insisted that while they could change their manager, the club would continue to struggle.

Nagelsmann may be the man to disprove Conte’s underwhelming vision of the future, however. The 35-year-old was sacked by Bayern Munich earlier this month following a defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The German is the favourite to take the reins at Tottenham at 1/2.

So is he a good fit for the north London club? Despite Nagelsmann’s dismissal from Bayern, the coach has hardly had a disastrous campaign.

Pochettino is a contender to return

Bayern have lost just three games all season. The club are currently second in the league, a point behind leaders Borussia Dortmund. Germany’s most successful club will also face Man City in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.

Christian Stellini is Tottenham’s acting head coach, with Ryan Mason working as Stellini’s assistant. Mason is 2/1 to take the head coach role on a permanent basis, with former boss Mauricio Pochettino also in the mix at 5/1.

Luis Enrique (12/1) is also viewed as a possible contender for the position, with Brentford’s Thomas Frank (18/1) and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi (20/1) also in the mix.

Spurs are currently fourth in the Prem, and will not win a trophy in this campaign. Their next league game is away to Everton, who have won three of their last four home games under Sean Dyche.
