Nico de Boinville: A decent pot for this Sussex Champion Hurdle and hopefully Maestro Royal has leading claims
Maestro Royal
A decent pot for this Sussex Champion Hurdle and hopefully Maestro Royal has leading claims. He ran a career-best when winning at Newbury for me last time and I think he can be competitive off a 5lb higher mark here, for all this looks a far deeper race than last time. The boss tries him in first-time cheekpieces and hopefully that will help, too. He took a while to get going at Newbury and the idea is that the cheekpieces will make him sharper around this tighter track.
Bardd
He was a useful bumper horse, winning at Sandown, and he has run well on three of his hurdling starts. He hasn’t got his head in front yet but he looks to be progressing with experience and he could have bumped into a fair sort over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last time. He seems effective on any ground so he should be okay whatever the weather throws at us.
