He was up against some battle-hardened horses on his debut at Musselburgh and he felt great when winning at Doncaster last time. He clearly has to improve again but he was a very good horse on the Flat, rated 105, and he deserves his place in the line-up. You have to think Defi Du Seuil and Master Blueyes are the two to beat but I can tell you that Charli Parcs has bounced back well from his Kempton fall and the guvnor is a master at bringing these horses back.  And he was very impressive first time out.

I think North Hill Harvey could be the one to beat here. He was put away for this race after winning the Greatwood in November, as was his stablemate Superb Story when winning this race last season.

Constantine Bay

You have to respect Death Duty, though I quite like Augusta Kate myself, but hopefully my mount will go well. He is improving with his racing and appreciated the step up to 3m on good ground when winning at Doncaster last time. He will have similar conditions today, and there is a lot to like about him, though this is the first time I have sat on him in a race.

3.30pm

I can’t see past the first three in the betting. I would love to see Cue Card win, for his longevity as much as anything else, but I also love the way Native River goes about it.
