Paddy Brennan, Cheltenham Day 3: Boyhood has a right chance
Boyhood
This is one of the rides that I have been looking forward to for a while as I think Boyhood has a right chance. The weather can do what it likes for him, as he bolted up over course and distance on heavy on New Year’s Day in 2018 and has form on good ground, too. He went up 13lb for that win but he finished a good second off this higher mark here in November and I thought he shaped really well for me on his first start since when third to Flemcara at Exeter last month. That would have put him spot on for this and we knows he goes well at the track, and I am pretty keen on his chances. I think he has a big run in him.

He has some good 2m form around here, with a win and a sixth in last year’s Grand Annual to his name, but he showed this trip holds no fears for him when winning over an extended 2m3f in the soft at Chepstow in December. He had the measure of Calipto when that one unseated at the last that day, and we have seen what he has done since, so I think a 7lb rise for that was probably justified. There was clearly no disgrace at all in being beaten so far by Cyrname at Ascot last time and he ran another solid race off this mark on good ground at Warwick last time. There may well be better handicapped horses in here, but he has his conditions and I definitely think he has an each-way chance again.
