Warp Factor

He clearly has a lot to find with one or two of these, but conditions will suit, so let’s see.  He acted on any going on the Flat but decent ground suits him well and he went off favourite when beaten just over 2 lengths off levels by Project Bluebook, who obviously improved when winning last time, over course and distance on New Year’s Day. He ran below par form on soft ground at Fairyhouse last time but this surface will suit him better. He does face a stiff task on what he has shown to date though, but at least we all don’t have to cope with Charli Parcs and Cliffs Of Dover.

Alvarado

He is obviously best known for his fourth placing in two Grand Nationals but he also ran a cracker in the Scottish version in April. He is a 12yo now but he is certainly fairly-handicapped – he runs off the same mark as that second to Vicente at Ayr – and he appeared to run very satisfactorily on his reappearance when seventh at Cheltenham in November.  He was fancied to run a big race in the Becher on the back of that good return, but he uncharacteristically fell at the second over the Grand National fences. Conditions look ideal for him here and Fergal has his horses in great form, so you have to be hopeful. It would be good to make my first ride on the old boy a winning one, and on a track on which he won his bumper back in 2009!
