Paddy Brennan: He comes here in unbelievable form
Pauls Hill
He won well over 2m5f over hurdles at Towcester last year, and we have always thought of him as a 3m chaser. He has strengthened up nicely but this looks a very tough task for him.
Coolanly
Ever since he won his bumper here last October, I have always had a lot of time for him. He bumped into a very good horse at Leicester after that – Vinndication is now rated 149 – and I went to Cheltenham thinking he could run a big race in the Ballymore, but it didn’t quite work out like that. He ran much better at Aintree and I think he could be a horse going places this season. This has been the plan since Aintree, maybe even before that, and he comes here in unbelievable form.
Theatre Guide
Everyone knows old Theatre Guide by now, and these veterans chases are made for him. The handicapper has dropped him to a mark of 145 for his return and he always goes well when fresh, so this looks a fair opportunity for him on a course on which he has won. He finished third in the Badger Ales last season first time up off a 9lb higher mark than this, and the recent rain is a plus.
Red Hot Chilly
He has been busy through the summer and of late, and he has not run a bad race since winning at Worcester in July. He has gone up 5lb for his Bangor second last time where we just got nailed, which is a bit harsh, but I think he has a big race in him, if not today. He should go okay, though, in his current excellent form.
Ask Dillon
He joined us after winning an Irish point on heavy ground and I was very happy with him when he was second on his debut for us in a Towcester bumper back in May. He has strengthened up since and I think he will be competitive, though I must say this looks a very hot race to me.
