Paddy Brennan: He looks fantastic at the moment
Abbey Street
He looks to have shown some promise in points but he will obviously have to improve markedly from his hurdles debut at Chepstow to be competitive here.
Colin’s Sister
If ever there was a time to take on Thistlecrack, it is probably now. I know we are carrying a 6lb penalty and only getting 1lb from him, but we have had a run and she comes here in really good form after Wetherby. And I think she has improved in every way since that win. She really surprised me when winning there, too. The way she locked on to the bridle on the turn impressed me no end, and she saw out the trip really well. Like I said, the 6lb penalty obviously makes it very hard for her against Thistlecrack and Uknowhatimeanharry (though we get 7lb from him) but I think this race could be very interesting. The step up in trip brought about a lot of improvement at Wetherby, and she is a horse going forward.
I Shot The Sheriff
I don’t know a lot about his hurdles form in Ireland to be honest but he has obviously been lightly-raced since winning a good handicap hurdle there a couple of years ago and the last time we saw him he was pulled up in the Martin Pipe in March. But I can tell you that he has schooled and worked well since joining us, and he looks fantastic at the moment. From what I have seen from him at home I can’t be anything but positive about his chances, for all that I know that there won’t be an easy race to win at Newbury over the next two days. Trip and ground should be fine for him, and hopefully the handicapper has given us a decent chance. I’m expecting a big run, anyway.
