Paddy Brennan: I still think he is up to winning this

1.50pm Sandown

Champagne Well

He has been in superb form this season, although it wasn’t great to see him lose the race in the stewards at Ludlow last time following on from a short-head defeat at Ascot. That “win” at Ludlow came over 3m, but he is equally effective over this shorter trip, and the ground won’t be an issue. I think a mark of 130 can see him be competitive.

2.25pm Sandown

Benny’s Bridge

It was rather frustrating to see Call Me Lord confirmed at the overnight stage, as that means that we have to race from 8lb out of the handicap here. But he was actually raised 3lb on Monday, so he is actually only 5lb wrong. It all came together for him at Cheltenham last time and the form has worked out really well – hence that 3lb rise earlier in the week – so it’s a real shame that he couldn’t race off 126. But we know he is lightly-raced and progressive and we really rate this horse; he is still in the Supreme and County next week, but let’s see how we get on here first. I’d have obviously been even keener on his chances had he been racing off his correct mark but this has been the plan for him for a while and he is in unbelievable form at home. I still think he is up to winning this.
