Paddy Brennan: There is every reason to think he could still be fairly treated here.

He finally came good in a claimer at Leicester last time. While he was entitled to go close in that grade on the best of his form, it was good to see this winning pointer get his head in front again, whether it be because of the step down in trip, or the first-time tongue-tie, or simply the drop in grade. The handicapper has raised him 5lb but conditions will suit and he should go close if in the same form as at Leicester.

He doesn’t look to have shown a lot before his handicap debut at Huntingdon last time but there is no denying the merit of his 50/1 second there. The winner, Broken Quest, bolted up at Kempton on his next start and then went on to beat another well-handicapped horse at Sandown recently. So, off a 4lb higher mark, there is every reason to think he could still be fairly treated here. The step up from 2m3f to 3m is the obvious question mark but he was placed in points in Ireland – only just beaten by by the smart novice hurdler Kilbricken Storm in one – so hopefully he can see the trip out okay.
