Premier League preview: all Sunday’s action
Everton vs Chelsea
Frank Lampard’s past meets his present on Sunday – in a match that could have huge repercussions for his Premier League future. Everton’s future too, for that matter.
The Toffees have a strong recent record against Lampard’s former club, beating Chelsea in each of their last three league matches at Goodison. But Everton have been largely lousy for most of this campaign. How can Lamps possibly outmanoeuvre the man who replaced him at Chelsea – and went on to win the Champions League in the same season?
In the hosts favour is Chelsea’s slight flakiness in recent weeks – though the West London team were markedly superior to Man United when the sides met earlier this week in a 1-1 draw.
The respective merits of these two sides suggests that Chelsea should be able to improve on that result against Everton. That said, the hosts are unbeaten in their last three home matches, and succeeded in keeping the score down against the likes of Man City, who won 1-0, and Spurs, who had to settle for a goalless draw.
Everton even kept Liverpool at bay in the Merseyside derby last week – at least until the second half. This might be another occasion when goals are few and far between. Back Chelsea to win and Under 3.5 goals in a double at 11/8.
Tottenham vs Leicester
A couple of weeks ago Spurs looked well placed to swoop in and steal fourth place from their faltering north London rivals. Two games later, Tottenham have earned just one point – while Antonio Conte has reportedly let it be known he’d quite fancy replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain.
Spurs could really do with a victory. Happily, Leicester have failed to win any of their last four away games. Kane’s commitment may be wavering, Conte’s ambition probably lies elsewhere, but surely Tottenham can get it together to best a Brendan Rodgers side who have disappointed for much of the season.
Kane is 10/13 to score, with Spurs 21/50 to win – combine the two for an 11/10 double.
West Ham vs Arsenal
West Ham have lost their last two games – most recently to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday. Which might have taken some of the oomph out of these Irons. Meanwhile, with back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Man Utd, Arsenal look to be full of pith and vinegar once more.
Rather than back the result here, perhaps it’s worth getting behind the young Gunners to score once more. Emile Smith Rowe has continued to look lively for Arsenal, and is 13/5 to score at any time here; Bukayo Saka is 23/10 in the same market.
Each man found the net against Chelsea a few weeks back, with Saka also scoring a penalty against Man Utd last week.
