Premier League preview: all Sunday’s matches
Wolves vs Brighton
Brighton have an improbably excellent record against Wolves in the top flight, with seven wins and four draws from 11 encounters, and the Midlands team yet to win against the Seagulls.
Saying that, the last four meetings have all ended in draws. Will this match end with honours even too? Possibly not, given Wolves have been dreadful at Molineux of late, losing three of their last four home games (the exception was a tight win against Sheffield United).
Brighton won last time out against Leeds, and have shown a tendency this season to win back-to-back games when they do earn a victory – it happened against Spurs and Liverpool, then Southampton and Newcastle earlier this year. I’ll back Brighton at 13/10 to take all three points here.
Aston Villa vs Man Utd
Villa won last time out against an Everton side that tend to play in rather turgid fashion whenever they appear at home. It could be a taller order for Dean Smith’s side to outshine Manchester United (and Villa are still without Jack Grealish).
Not that it’s all rosy with the Red Devils – just ask their fans. While some of the support have revelled in the act of getting games cancelled, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is annoyed at the ones he has to play; starting from Thursday’s Europa League game, United play four matches in eight days, a state of affairs the manager calls “impossible”.
Technically, you’re wrong Ole – assuming another protest isn’t about to erupt on Sunday, anyway – but we understand your pain. In this instance, I think it will nonetheless be a straightforward win for the visitors, who still haven’t lost an away game in the Prem this season.
United have won four of the last five meetings between these teams, while Villa have just one win in the last 44 Premier League encounters with Man Utd. Mason Greenwood has been lively for the Manchester side in recent weeks – six goals from nine games in all comps – and may be able to find the net here at 12/5.
West Ham vs Everton
A somewhat fortunate result against Arsenal aside, Everton have failed to win in six of their last seven league games. The visitors have the talent to give David Moyes’ side a challenge, but too often this season they’ve failed to impress.
West Ham are still in the hunt for a top four finish, even if it’s going to be a big ask to overtake Chelsea. All the Irons can do is take care of business at their end – and that surely means seeing off this Everton team. West Ham are 13/10 for the win; Michail Antonio, who found the net twice against Burnley a week ago, is 8/5 to score here.
Arsenal vs West Brom
Tough times for the glum Gunners, after they were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday. Will West Brom feel a backlash from an enraged Arsenal – or can Sam Allardyce’s team win this one to maintain that faint possibility of avoiding relegation? Lose here, and West Brom are down.
Given the Gunners haven’t won a home game in their last six attempts in all competitions, I think it’s worth taking a punt on the Baggies to pour further misery on Mikel Arteta. You can back West Brom to win at 6/1.
