Premier League preview: Brighton vs Chelsea
Fresh from knocking them out of the FA Cup, Brighton host Chelsea once again on Friday night. Can the Seagulls make it two wins in two against the Blues?
Enzo Maresca’s side started this season so brightly, at one point the Italian was forced to deny his team were prospective title challengers.
Clearly his players have taken those words to heart. There’s been an alarming drop off in Chelsea’s form since Christmas that included a five-game winless streak.
The west London side have improved in recent weeks, at least, winning their last two home games against Wolves and West Ham. So how will they fare at the Amex?
Brighton aren’t without problems of their own. Last time out in the Prem, the south coast side suffered a 7-0 mauling away to Nottingham Forest that could scarcely have been more traumatic for the visitors.
In fact, Brighton have lost their last two league games, going down at home 1-0 to Everton in late January.
Looking strictly at recent home games in the Prem, the hosts aren’t exactly prolific scorers either. In their last five home games, Brighton have scored a total of three goals.
But Maresca’s side just aren’t reliable on the road, having lost to Ipswich and drawn against Dyche’s Everton in the last couple of months.
Chelsea are struggling for away wins. Brighton are struggling for home wins. Yes, this one feels like it could end all square. The draw is a 13/5 shot.
