Premier League preview: Brighton vs Man City
While Man City clinched the title at the weekend, Brighton enjoyed a historic milestone of their own on Sunday. The Seagulls win over Southampton means they’ve all but earned their place in the Europa League next season. It will be the Seagulls’ first ever foray into European competition.
In the meantime, there’s still a few games to wrap up this season, though. And with City still to play two Cup finals in their quest to land a fabled treble, it seems likely Pep Guardiola may not play his usual first choice selection when his side visit the south coast on Wednesday.
That means Erling Haaland may be rested, as he was against Chelsea this weekend. Despite Pep’s rotation in that game, City won 1-0 against the Blues for City’s 12 consecutive league win; similarly, even with a changed team, Roberto De Zerbi’s side may still face a challenge at the Amex.
On their most recent previous visit last season, City won 4-1. In fact, City have triumphed in 10 of the last 11 league meetings between these two sides.
Brighton have also shown vulnerabilities in recent weeks, losing 4-1 away to Newcastle. Before that, they also shipped five goals against Everton at home, improbably.
While the City side may have an unfamiliar look about it, the quality of the visitor’s performance is unlikely to nosedive significantly. Yet Brighton will want to put in a good showing in their last home game of the season, and against this opposition.
This one feels like it could end with each side willing to settle for a point – and the draw is a 33/10 shot.
For Brighton, there’s talk that Evan Ferguson may not start. But if he is playing, he could be worth backing to find the net, having bagged a brace against Southampton at the weekend. Ferguson is 23/10 to find the net at any time.
