Premier League preview: Fulham vs Tottenham
Monday night brings an intriguing London derby in the Premier League; win tonight, and hosts Fulham can leapfrog Antonio Conte’s hit-and-miss Tottenham to move into fifth place.
Marco Silva’s side might just be able to do it, too. Fulham lost last time out against Newcastle in a narrow 1-0 defeat, but overcame Chelsea at Craven Cottage earlier this month. They’ve won five of their last six matches in all comps.
Spurs turned it on – for a bit – against Man City last week, going 2-0 up at the Etihad – only for Pep Guardiola’s team to roar back with four second half goals.
That result means it’s one win in five attempts for Tottenham. The north London side are clearly capable on their day, but are also often bewilderingly flat.
Conte came with a reputation as a man who could rid this side of its occasional slipshod qualities, making them genuine contenders for the title.
But the Italian has failed to improve the side; and certainly this season there’s been a notable decline in Son Heung-Min, who has four league goals to date.
The Cottagers’ recent form suggests they may be able to nab victory, then. But Spurs are also capable of taking points on the road; they gubbed Crystal Palace 4-0 earlier this month, all four goals scored after the interval with Spurs having looked vulnerable in the opening 45 minutes.
Maybe it’s safer not to rely on either of these teams. Instead, let’s look beyond the result.
Spurs have scored in nine of their ten away games in the Prem this season; Fulham have found the net in nine of their ten home games. So it could be worth backing Both Teams To Score and over 2.5 goals in a double in 32Red’s bet builder section, at 19/20.
