Premier League preview: Liverpool vs Man Utd & Fulham vs Ipswich
Fulham vs Ipswich
Both these sides turned over title hopefuls Chelsea during the festive period – so who comes out on top in this clash?
The Cottagers are unbeaten in seven league games, a run that includes the 2-1 win over Chelsea. Meanwhile, Ipswich were victorious twice in December, having only won a single league game all season prior to that.
With Fulham only keeping three clean sheets in the Prem all season, it’s not a stretch to see both teams scoring here – and three of Fulham’s last four games have seen three or more goals scored. You could try combining BTTS in a double with over 2.5 goals at evens.
Liverpool vs Man Utd
Liverpool are historically Man Utd’s fiercest rivals. But that rivalry is unlikely to result in a classic, closely fought encounter on Sunday. Clash of the titans? This one could be more like Godzilla laying waste to an unprotected Tokyo.
With Man United playing poorly under their new coach, Ruben Amorim reckons his team could even find themselves fighting against relegation this season.
Perhaps Amorim said that to try and coax some fire and fury from his side. Nevertheless it’s tough to make much of an argument for the visitors taking anything but a beating at Anfield.
United have lost five of their last six league games. Liverpool have lost one game all season.
Going back a couple of years ago under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool won this fixture 7-0. And Arne Slot’s side warmed up for this one with a 5-nil away win over West Ham. Could a similar drubbing be on the cards?
Liverpool have already beaten United 3-0 at Old Trafford this season. They’ve scored a total of 14 goals in their last three league matches, too.
It couldn’t be much more ominous for the visitors. If you’re looking for a scrap of positivity for United, last season they did hold Liverpool to a goalless draw in this fixture.
That might be the best they can hope for this time round too. But can this United defence really keep Liverpool at bay for 90 minutes? It seems unlikely.
The home win seems inevitable, but betting-wise, maybe it’s better to focus on goalscorers. Cody Gakpo has scored in his last two appearance for Liverpool, but he also has goals in his last four appearances at Anfield in all competitions. The Dutchman is 37/20 to find the net here.
